Visiting Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery in Niigata
This time, I’d like to introduce the sake brewery tour at Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery, located in Niigata Prefecture.
In this article, I’ll share my experience from the brewery tour and sake tasting session I attended in November 2024.
Since Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery is within walking distance from Niigata Station, it’s a great place to visit when exploring Niigata!
About the Brewery
Founded in 1767, Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery boasts a long and rich history.
It is well known for:
・Sake with a unique Nishikigoi (koi fish) design on the bottle
・A sake that pairs exceptionally well with oysters, commonly found in Japanese izakayas
Thanks to these distinctive products, Imayotsukasa has become a favorite among sake enthusiasts.
Sake Brewery Tour
The brewery offers guided tours of the production area seven times a day on weekdays and eight times a day on weekends and holidays.
During the tour, you can enjoy:
✅ An explanation of the sake brewing process
✅ An introduction to their sake products
✅ Photo spots designed for social media enthusiasts!


Sake Tasting
The tour includes a tasting of three types of sake and umeshu (plum wine).
Additionally, for a small extra fee (¥500), you can try the “Sake Gacha”—a capsule toy machine where you can win sake, amazake (sweet rice drink), or even a special glass!

If you’d like to try a wider variety, a paid all-you-can-taste option is also available.
